DibakarBanerjee is an unhappy man, especially since his film Love, Sex Dhokha isscheduled for release this Friday and he just got the censor board certificateyesterday. The film is releasing with five cuts and a toneddown sex scene. This impacts the overseas distribution as well, as usually thefilm makes it across the shores a week inadvance.
Apparently, the censorboard was not pleased with the director’s ‘bold’ theme and hadasked for changes before clearing it.
Objections were made to a few dialoguesand Dibakar was asked to reduce the love-making scenes in the film beforereapplying for the certificate. Dibakar made the requisite changes, includingredubbing some of the ‘objectionable’ language in thefilm.
Vinayak Azad, Regional Officer of Censor Board, said,“Yes, we asked them for some language as well as some visual cuts. Theyhad already blurred the sex scene and even changed the word from‘nangi’ to ‘gandi’. They have reduced the sex scene to15 seconds. Normally the certificate is issued two weeks before the film’srelease but it got delayed because of the cuts.”
The actorsrefused to comment on the issue. Anshuman Jha, the lead actor of the film, said,“I think Dibakar is the right person to speak about this.” AmitSial, who plays a journalist who carries out the sting operation in the filmsaid, “I am an actor in the film and I have done my job. Apart from this,I can’t comment on anything further.”
Dibakar had nochoice but to comply. He said, “Yes, they asked for a few cuts and weremoved the mention of a particular caste. Apart from that, we have also reducedthe sex scene in the film and it is only 15 seconds long.”
